Peritoneal pseudocyst (also known peritoneal inclusion cyst or benign cystic mesothelioma) is a type of cyst-like structure that appears in relation to the peritoneum and results from a non-neoplastic reactive mesothelial proliferation.
Peritoneal pseudocyst occur in women with a history of previous abdominal or pelvic surgery (in this case salpingectomy for ectopic pregnancy made by open way two years before), trauma, pelvic inflammatory disease, or endometriosis.
Surgical resection of adhesions is necessary in selected cases ( infertility , severe pelvic pain, ..). After surgical resection, the risk of recurrence is 30-50%. Peritoneal inclusion cysts have no malignant potential despite the occasional occurrence of metaplasia.
