Online Rhythm Masterclass with Pt. Tanmoy Bose.
Part 4: Rou, Rela
Pt. Tanmoy Bose is a professional percussionist, a participant in the Grammy award-winning albums – Full Circle, Carnegie Hall (2000), and Concert for George (2004). His musical education began at the age of seven, learning vocal music from Pt. Maharaj Banerjee, harmonium from Pt. Mantu Banerjee, and subsequently learning tabla. Tanmoy ji started his training in the traditional guru shishya pramapara with Pt. Kanai Dutta, after whose death he became a disciple of Pt. Shankar Ghosh.
This ace globe-trotting new-age percussionist has been performing with the musical legend, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, as early as his college days. Another great milestone in Tanmoy ji’s life was achieved when the greatest ambassador of Indian classical music Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar invited him to play regularly with him around the world.
Tanmoy ji is an ardent researcher and composer. His long tours abroad had given him opportunities to interact and play with musicians, composers, and choreographers. In 2002, his world music project, Taal Tantra, showcasing cross-cultural rhythm and devices, won the hearts of connoisseurs and critics alike. He has been successfully composing music for national award winning feature films and various other documentaries and ballets. For Tanmoy ji, music and life are inseparable. Rhythm is his quest for truth and beauty- it transcends all other priorities in his life.
