What's important about the research that we reached. They hypothesized that women of color were running and losing and that people were just choosing the white men. Women of all races and men of all colors win their races at the same rate as white men. It shatters this myth that white men are safe bets in elections. Even though women of all races ran at historic levels in 2018, they still are wildly underrepresented on the ballot. The system of political gatekeepers really gives the phrase old boys club new meaning. In my experience the problem isn't that women and people of color don't want to represent their communities, they have to break through these gatekeeper systems. The process of being selected as a political candidate and running looks a lot more like a fraternity. The bias is a lot more upstream in the system. It's pretty stark the divide between republicans with diversity and democrats with diversity. 2018 was the first year that white men were not a majority of candidates on the ticket. There is an increasing gulf between the two parties and representing the life of the American people.
