Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer and other public officials are urging residents to attend four "open-house" meetings designed to help shape the city's future as part of a comprehensive city-county effort known as the Community Investments Plan. The meetings will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the following dates and locations:
April 14 - City Arts, 334 N. Mead St.;
April 16 - Alford Library, 3447 S. Meridian St.;
April 21 - WSU Metroplex, Room 185, 5015 E. 29th Street North;
April 28 - Sedgwick County Extension Office, Meadowlark Room, 7001 W. 21st Street.
"I'm excited to announce an important opportunity for the citizens of Wichita," said Brewer who was joined by officials from the joint City of Wichita and Sedgwick County planning department. "We need to hear more from residents on these important matters. Please take a few minutes from your busy schedule and drop by one of these open house meetings."
The meetings are the latest in a series of community engagement efforts that have taken place for more than a year including a community survey, the Activate Wichita online conversation tool and the ACT-ICT community meetings. Residents are being asked to weigh in on issues related to community growth; pressing public infrastructure needs; economic development including job creation; and quality of life, community health and public safety improvements.
The Community Investments Plan focuses on policies for growth and investment for the next 20 years. The four open-house sessions are the first of a series of planned community meetings.
"Our community has begun the difficult work of planning for a variety of issues, opportunities and challenges," Brewer said. "We believe this planning work is important in determining where we are headed, and how we make decisions and work together in ways that are positive for the quality of life in our community. Now is the time to build on that information with your individual input as an important stakeholder."
