Struggling with a stinky litter box? No one wants the dreaded "cat" smell in their home (for their home's sake and also when guests come by) but that unpleasant smell is even more unpleasant to your cat. A cat's sense of smell is MUCH stronger than ours, so they could be deterred from using the litter box altogether if things get stinky. Here's 3 reasons why your cat's litter box might stink, and a few tips to help avoid this in the future... 1️⃣ The cat parent isn't cleaning it enough: If a cat's litter box is not being cleaned frequently enough, urine and feces will build up and cause an unpleasant odor. It is important to scoop the litter box at least once a day. 2️⃣ There's too few litter boxes in your home: The general rule of thumb is you should have as many litter boxes as you do cats, plus an extra. By providing more places for them to do their business, you avoid having major build-up in a dedicated area. 3️⃣ The litter isn't good at controlling odor: If the litter used in the cat's does not have odor controlling qualities (like absorbancy, deodorizing, clumping) then it's likely the litter box will stink the second your cat does their business. This is something we kept in mind when creating Really Great Cat Litter, which is made with activated charcoal to help control unwanted smells.
