OLYMPIC TORCH MONTREAL 1976
Official torch for the Games of the XXI Olympiad in Montreal in 1976.
Designed by Georges Huel Michel Dallaire for the Olympic Games Organizing Committee.
Arrival of the Olympic flame in Montreal on July 17, 1976, opening ceremony in a stadium with 73,000 spectators to welcome the runners.
The torch was produced in batches of 2,000, 1,200 of which were used for the relay between Ottawa and Montreal, while the remainder were distributed to dignitaries attending the Games.
It is made of silicone-painted aluminum and thermosetting polyester, with a red handle and black torch.
More than 700 persons were chosen to relay the Flame from Ottawa to Montréal, and from there to Kingston where the yachting competition was held.
