Over 1 million genome sequences of the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been generated and shared since the beginning of the pandemic, providing unprecedented resolution of the introduction, spread and ongoing evolution of this pathogen. In this talk I will describe insights provided by genomic surveillance efforts for SARS-CoV-2 in Massachusetts and how the same metagenomic sequencing approaches are being used to improve our understanding of undifferentiated fever through partnerships in West Africa.
