”What's at stake is a lot. I mean, what could be at stake for Fox is a lot of money. I mean, the lawsuit is for $1.6 billion. Dominion also wants Fox to come clean and to tell people that they were wrong in what they did post-Election Day. The ramifications could also mean a lot for libel law in this country.”

“It's not often you see libel cases that are that strong. Libel is very hard to prove. And this is a case where they have a lot of different instances and a lot of evidence that people within Fox didn't believe these accusations when they were being put on the air.”

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Dave Bauder, Associated Press:
“We don't know totally for sure that there is going to be a trial because there's a lot of talk today that there are negotiations going on for a possible settlement in the case, either before it starts or there could be a settlement at any point in the trial, even when it goes to a jury. But if the trial does go through, people seem to think that it will last about six weeks. And predicting how a jury is going to decide on something like this can be a fool's errand.”

STORYLINE:
The trial over Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion lawsuit against Fox News involving false claims about the 2020 presidential election is scheduled to start Tuesday in a Delaware court.
For months, a voting machine company's lawsuit has made Fox News a news story itself, as court filings pulled back a curtain on internal misgivings about groundless 2020 election fraud claims made on some of the network's top programs.
Jurors will get their first look at the voting machine company's defamation case against the nation's top-rated cable news network.
The scheduled trial start comes after a one-day delay granted by the judge overseeing the case.
