Throughout the global postal network, road transportation is a primary means for the movement of mail from facility to facility, and facility to delivery. To this end, billions of kilometers are driven worldwide on an annual basis. As the risk of road related accidents increases proportionally with the number of kilometers driven, ensuring road safety within the global postal network is a significant and noble goal. Through the efforts of the Postal Security Group’s Road Safety Expert Team, the UPU aims to align with the United Nations Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety in order to increase road safety and better protect postal employees, customers, and business operations throughout the world.
In alignment with these efforts, this webinar discusses the activities of the Road Safety Expert Team and highlights the successes of the CTT Correios de Portugal Road Safety Programme that could potentially serve as a template for other Postal Operators to protect their personnel, fleets, and businesses and be better prepared to ensure an overall safer road environment.
Speaker: José Fernando Guilherme, CTT Road Safety Manager and Chair of the UPU Road Safety Expert Team
