By Melissa VegaSAN ANTONIO -- On Tuesday, News 4 San Antonio reported the story about an 84-year-old woman who didn't want to be identified, but said she was approached by a man who wanted to sell her a Sunday newspaper subscription.She was told by the man all she needed was a dollar to get started and he'd sign her up. The woman went on to say she went inside her home to get the dollar from her purse and the man followed her inside saying he was thirsty and wanted some water. The elderly woman went to the kitchen to get the man a glass of water, and when she came back to the living room she told News 4 San Antonio the man was gone along with her purse.The woman described the man who stole her purse as a young Hispanic man, wearing black slacks, a stripped t-shirt, and said he was holding a clipboard.Another man watching the previous report told News 4 San Antonio his 86-year-old mother was also a victim. The man who also didn't want to be identified said the so called newspaper sales man told his mother he was with the San Antonio Express News and was offering a yearly subscription to the Sunday paper for forty dollars. He presents himself so very well, so convincing, he said.He said his mother gave him the money and she was told he'd be right back with a receipt. The stranger never returned.We need to catch him, he went on to say. Paul Kutzik, Director of Circulation Sales for the San Antonio Express-News tells News 4 San Antonio the newspaper does have a contract with Circulation Media Sales, and that CMS representatives do go door to door and sell subscriptions. Kutzik went on to say CMS employees have four part copy receipts with the Express-News logo, and each receipt is numbered. All employees also have Circulation Media Sales Identification Cards.San Antonio Police say the matter is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
