Municipal Fresh Water Environment and Water Resources Governance:
Southern Africa Development Communities (SADC) economic bloc faces acute water scarcity challenges due to drought recurrence, degradation of surface water resources, and the increasing demand for water from agriculture, which must meet the growing food demands of an increasing population.
The Fresh Water, Energy, and Food Nexus (WEF-N), driven by IR 4.0, is an approach that recognises interconnections, interrelationships and trade-offs between all three resources to enhance municipal freshwater market pools for Economic Recovery and Reconstruction Plans in the SADC countries. This session will focus on the overall liveability using “big and mega-data”, “internet-of-things”, “information on water market pool”, and “municipal smart water systems”. These data concepts are electronic and digital applications related to the SADC water market pool model to support water authorities.
