Uttarkashi Tunnel Rescue Operation : All 41 Workers Evacuated Safely | 2YoDoINDIA News Network
All the forty-one workers who were trapped inside Uttarakhand's Silkyari tunnel since November 12 were evacuated safely today. The rescued workers were draped in orange marigold flower garlands and were greeted by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister VK Singh.
The trapped workers were pulled out through 57 metres of steel pipe on stretchers fitted with wheels.
On November 12, a section of the tunnel between 205 and 260 metres from the Silkyara side collapsed. Workers who were beyond the 260-metre mark were trapped, with their exit blocked.
The process to pull out 41 workers trapped inside the under-construction Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi started on Tuesday evening is now complete. Rat-hole mining experts manually drilled through the last 10- 12-metre stretch of debris of the collapsed portion of the under-construction tunnel on the Char Dham route and cleared it. Warm clothes and initial medical check ups have been provided to the initial rescued workers. Twelve rat-hole mining experts were involved in the horizontal excavation through the last 10 or 12-metre stretch of debris from the collapsed portion of the under-construction tunnel on Uttarakhand's Char Dham route. This drilling was earlier carried out by a huge auger machine that got stuck in the rubble on Friday at around 47 metres. A portion of the tunnel collapsed on November 12, blocking the exit with 41 workers inside.
