Trier is the oldest city in Germany, founded by the Celts in the late 4th century BC.
In this video you will see most of the sightseeing spots of Trier:
- The German philosopher Karl Marx who was one of the founders of Marxism, was born in here. His birthplace is now a museum and a popular place to visit for tourists.
- The Porta Nigra is a must see in Trier. It is the oldest, still existing Roman gate that you can find. The gate was built by the Romans at the end of the 2nd century. Only this gate is still existing and is a World Heritage Site.
- The Cathedral of Trier is the oldest church in Germany. The central part of the church was built of Roman bricks in the fourth century. This historical building is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
In here is the holy Robe of Jesus, which is said to have been worn by Jesus during or shortly before his crucifixion.
- The Church of Our Lady( Liebfrauenkirche ) is the oldest Gothic church in Germany and popular for it's colourful windows.
- The protestants Church was originally an audience hall for Roman emperors who visited the city in the 4th century.
- The Electoral Palace right next to the Constantine Basilica was used as a residence of the Electors in Trier. The attached palace garden of the palace is now a public park.
- The Moselle River is also very popular among tourists and locals. Several events take place here in summer time and attract many visitors.
