We want to make a Romantic comedy film with the homeless men and women of Birmingham. And we need your help to do it.
Who are we...
SIFA Fireside is a dynamic local charity working to tackle homelessness and alcohol misuse. We are based in Digbeth, Birmingham and work with people aged 18 and over with no upper age limit. SIFA Fireside is proposing to work with not-for-profit film organisation Reel Access to produce a film that will be made in conjunction with the homeless men and women who use the centre.
Life and Love in 10 Songs' is a romantic comedy that will be a different take on the lives of homeless people, showing that relationships and romance can flourish from the most difficult and dire circumstances. The focus is on two people who find a mutual inner strength which develops into a love story and takes them on an unforeseen journey. The film is in 10 chapters with a theme song to each, which mirrors the journey they are on. It looks at people from a human perspective and tries to avoid the usual stereotyping of homeless people and substance abusers.
Reel Access will provide filmmaking training those people who come come to centre and thus giving them active roles within the production. They will be given opportunities to act in the film.
The funding will be used for...
We are looking to raise £5000 for the production of the film. This will include the filmmaking training and the films Production and editing. Funding will also be used for screenings in Birmingham and London once the film is completed.
In terms of what you receive by giving money to the project we are aiming to give you a real experience of working with both SIFA Fireside and Reel Access and the more money you give the more we will ask you to do. For example if you give £100 we will ask you to come help out at SIFA Fireside for a morning. For £1000 we will give you the opportunity to help on further projects.
If we do not achieve 80% of our funding target, the money raised will be given back to the donators. We would though advise the donators to give directly to SIFA Fireside to help them continue their valuable work with the homeless of Birmingham.
Why is this project important...
Both SIFA Fireside and Reel Access Believes that is is a very important project because of the positive impact it will have upon the lives of individuals who come and use SIFA Fireside.
Reel Access has produced numerous film projects with hard to reach groups and individuals. Reel Access aim is is raise aspirations through film and we believe that through the production of this film we will give the participants a greater sense of well being, a chance to be creative and communicate their ideas,
If you want to help can but can't give a financial contribution please contact us. If you have any skills that you think are relevant or have any film equipment that you think we could use it would be great to hear from you.
