A CMC Rescue video demonstrating a rope rescue technique for getting a subject out of a tree, whether that be a hunter, an arborist, or anyone that gets stuck while climbing a tree. Some of the equipment used in the rescue technique is anchor straps with swivel pulleys, main and belay ropes, victim harness, and drop line.
Once the rescue team arrives on the scene they'll want to determine where their subject is in the tree. Based upon the location of the subject in the tree they will then determine the best point in the tree to select as an anchor point that is above the subject. This anchor point needs to be high enough above the subject so that it provides enough lift to enable the team to get the subject up and off of the limb or up and off of the platform (i.e., tree stand).
Once the anchor is placed above the subject, the team will perform a vector raise, enabling them to move the subject off of whatever they are sitting on and then lower them to the ground.
No Mechanical Advantage "M/A" is required for this technique.
The technique requires a team of three; the rescuer, the mainline attendant, and the belay line attendant.
The mainline and belay line are pre-rigged to anchor straps so when they are pulled up to the rescuer in the tree the rescuer can maneuver in the tree, hands-free, to establish the anchor at the high point.
Providing a helmet to the subject is important for their head protection during the rescue raise and lower maneuver. The subject is then placed in the victim harness which is attached to the end of both the main and the belay line.
A vector raise is then carried out on the main line and belay line while using the CMC MPD as a descent control device. As a member of the rescue team comes onto the vector by pulling down on the main and belay lines, the subject is raised up. Once the subject is clear of the obstruction the team member comes off the vector. From this point the subject can then be lowered down to the ground.
