More than 20,000 students marched in the streets of Belgrade on Tuesday (3/12) as protesters held a 15th day of mass rallies against Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic's government. With the protests showing no signs of tapering off, Milosevic made no move on the streets against the demonstrators - police made no arrests - but Belgrade's main independent radio station B-92, which has given a lot of coverage to the
mass protests, was declared illegal and closed down.
B-92 had filed a complaint with the communications ministry after its
broadcasts were jammed over the past days. In its reply, the ministry told B-92 on Tuesday that the station did not have a licence to broadcast.
Two United States Congressmen, Stan Ford Bishop and Nick Rahall, who are
visiting Belgrade on a fact-finding mission, said on Tuesday the demonstrations were part of "a quest for freedom and for democracy that is sweeping the world."
