Weary McGearey is an original Irish folk piece written for an advanced string ensemble. It begins with a slow and haunting introduction with the melody in the 1st violins. The violas and cellos take over the melodic interest before the piece moves into a fast reel in E minor. The reel features some tricky syncopated rhythms, left hand pizzicato, col legno and fast melodic passages providing interest to all players. There is a change to E major in the middle section before a return to the first melody in unison. This piece is bound to be a hit with students, teachers and audiences alike!
