David served as Chief Procurement Officer in CONMED Corporation between 2016 - 2020 Greater Boston Area. He was responsible for all global procurement and sourcing activities for direct and indirect materials with the support of 35 team members across the globe.
David's key points about the contemporary supply chain environment include:
- "We're in the business continuity business..."
- General management skills are critical for procurement/supply chain professionals (finance, product development, sales/demand, manufacturing/supply, quality, personnel, etc.)
- S&OP is a critical strategic planning process
- Target the gaps and get after closing them (i.e., digital solutions)
- "Cost of Delay (COD). Savings you'll never get back. Be decisiveness..."don't try to boil the ocean" or look for perfect.
- You have to earn a seat at the table as a procurement/supply chain professional.
- Talent development is an important responsibility for supply chain leaders
