The partner country Croatia is launching an export offensive to coincide with the International Green Week Berlin 2020. From 17 to 26 January the latest country to join the EU will be increasing the size of its display area threefold and occupying the entire area of Hall 10.2 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. Some 50 Croatian food companies will be presenting their specialities to the German and international market on an area covering 1,600 square metres. This was announced by the Croatian Minister of Agriculture Marija Vučković at a press conference held yesterday with a German delegation of journalists in Zagreb.

Minister Marija Vučković: “In Berlin we will be exhibiting the best of everything that Croatia has to offer: large and small food companies, protected and local products, on display alongside 1,800 exhibitors from every part of the world. Germany is one of our most important trading partners and our presentation will be an excellent chance to intensify this cooperation, conclude new deals and explore the opportunities that Croatia has with its food products on the wider European market.“
Furthermore, Croatia would be taking over the presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2020 and attracting special attention in Europe as a result. This would also help the country to position itself on the political stage and create a space for its culture, traditions, food specialities and everything that made Croatia special and different, the minister added.
Luka Burilović, President of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, emphasised that there was still great potential for agricultural and food products in export business with Germany.
In 2018, Croatia exported food and farming products worth 157.7 million euros to Germany, while importing similar products worth 462.3 million euros from Germany. In 2018, Germany was Croatia’s fourth most important export market and accounted for 7.57 per cent of the total export value of agricultural and food products. Germany was ranked number one among Croatia’s import markets, with a share of 14.94 per cent.
During their stay in Croatia the German delegation of journalists visited Dalmatia, Slavonia and Croatia proper. In addition to Croatia’s diverse cuisine, attractions included sea fish farms, wine-growing regions and facilities producing ham, cheese and salt.
