Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai while speaking to the media on July 03 attacked MK Stalin and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar over water sharing of the Cauvery river. He claimed that ever since MK Stalin came to power, we have sacrificed our rights over the Mulla Periyar Dam waters.
He, later on, attacked DK Shivakumar for unilaterally announcing that Karnataka will not release single drop of water from Cauvery river. He said, “There is a pattern to the whole thing since MK Stalin has become Tamil Nadu’s CM. If I can recall after he became the CM of Tamil Nadu for the very first time, we sacrificed our rights over the Mulla Periyar waters, and the shutters of the Dam were opened in an unauthorized way for the first time in history after DMK came to power in 2021.
After Congress came to power, Dy CM DK Shivakumar unilaterally announced that we will not release a single drop of water to Tamil Nadu from Kaveri. When millions of farmers will suffer. Every single person from BJP will be standing outside the airport and everywhere where CM MK Stalin is going with black flags.”
On July 01 Annamalai urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to boycott the proposed meeting of the Opposition parties in Bengaluru on July 13-14 as a mark of protest against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s statement that Karnataka will not be able to release Cauvery water.
A three-judge bench of the apex court had in its 2018 verdict ordered Karnataka to release 177.25 tmcft of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
