Former Apple employee Xiaolang Zhang pleaded guilty today to stealing trade secrets, which could land him in jail for 10 years, CNBC reported Zhang was first hired by Apple in December 2015 to work on Project Titan, developing software and hardware for self-driving cars. As a member of the Computing team, Zhang designed and tested circuit boards to analyze sensor data, and he had access to Apple's secure and confidential internal database. In April 2018, Zhang left Apple for Chinese startup XMotors, and soon after Apple discovered he had stolen sensitive Apple Car hardware and development data. In July 2018, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation charged Zhang with trade secret theft and he was arrested soon after for trying to leave the country. Zhang concluded a plea agreement this week, which is being signed with the US government.
