Wheat crop yields maximum production under favorable climatic conditions. We have discussed ideal weather conditions for different growth stages of wheat in this video. It is the time to pray Allah Almighty for the provision of suitable climatic conditions from sowing to successful harvesting of wheat crop during this season.
It has been discussed that heavy rain and smog free period from mid November to mid of December is of prime importance to accomplish the planting process. Mild rainfall (10 mm or so) associated with low temperature (minimum limits of 3-60C and maximum limits of 12-180 C) during the tillering stage is very important for maximum tillering of wheat. Slow increase in temperature but not more than 210C associated with gentle rainfalls of 20-50 mm with proper interval within the month of February strengthens the dream of ideal production. A temperature of 13-260C and mild rainfall is considered ideal at booting stage. A temperature regime below 300C with no rainfall during the earing stage and gradual increase in temperature between 32-360C during mid March to mid of April associated with mild rainfall in the rain fed Punjab, may culminate into as ideal crop as it was achieved during 1999-2000. We should be aware of local weather forecast and see the weather report regularly to make better decisions about our potential crop. Current temperature at a specific time should also be under consideration and 10 day weather forecast should also be taken into account.
Ideal weather conditions required for successful wheat crop and seasons of record wheat production have been discussed in this video. During the previous two consecutive years, very unfavorable weather conditions were faced.
Presently, weather condition is favorable and wheat crop is growing successfully in most parts of the irrigated Punjab and KPK. In the light of previous 45 years weather data of central Punjab, it has been concluded that south Punjab and Sindh province are facing relatively higher temperature which may lead to shrivel grains if a gentle rainfall not occurs before mid of March. A rational rainfall of 15-30 mm is direly needed from 20 February to mid of March in the rain fed parts of Rawalpindi, Jehlam, Chakwal, Attock and Mianwali districts. Rice zone wheat crop is thriving well and the weather conditions are also favorable except recent foggy days and patches of rust in the riverbed areas. Central Punjab, which is the bread basket of Pakistan (Faisalabad, TT. Singh, Jhang, Okara and Sahiwal) is enjoying very favorable condition and risk of aphid and yellow rust is at its minimum level since ever.
From this, it can be predicted that a bumper crop is expected particularly if a gentle rainfall of 15-30 mm occurs within a month or so. Nevertheless, special series of preys to Allah Almighty, at mass media level is the need of hour for raising of fully successful wheat crop.
