Cyclone Nivar hit India's southern coast on Thursday, bringing floods and strong winds that topped trees and powerlines.
The severe cyclone made landfall near the city of Puducherry, with winds of up to 130 kilometres per hour, according to India's Meteorological Department.
According to local media reports, at least five deaths occurred due to the storm.
