Ben Burkett, a fourth-generation African-American family farmer, cooperative business advocate and state coordinator for the Mississippi Association of Cooperatives, presents the 2016 NOFA/Mass Winter Conference keynote speech.
Burkett shared lessons learned from his personal experience as a family farmer in Mississippi deeply involved with cooperative enterprises during his talk on “Family Farmers Matter.” He touches upon issues of economics, international solidarity, globalization, race, the social standing of farmers, stewardship and small-scale farming.
