This is a recording of the #TBSc01 plenary session: New diagnostics to reach the missing millions, part of the #TBScience preconference of the 50th Union World Conference on Lung Health which took place in #Hyderabad, #India.
To reach the “missing” and vulnerable patient populations including people living with HIV and children, there is a need for novel tests that are rapid, rugged, easy to use and can be done on an easily accessible sample types (e.g. urine, fingerprick blood, saliva) where patients first present to care. Such tests may improve affordability and availability of TB diagnosis and could thus increase the identification of TB cases and reduce TB transmission. This session assesses the status of the discovery and development of diagnostic tests in this space, focusing on pathogen biomarkers.
