The Devils first overtime game of these playoffs ends pretty early! Just over two minutes into OT, John Madden makes a nice pass to Jamie Langenbrunner at the top of the right circle. Langenbrunner fakes and shoots one that Nikolai Khabibulin stops, but Langenbrunner gets right to the rebound, cuts in front and backhands the puck into the net to give the Devils the 3-2 overtime win and 2-0 series lead!
Unfortunately Game 3 would pretty much be a dumpster fire for the Devils. They lost Scott Stevens early in the game when a Pavel Kubina shot hit Stevens in the side of the head. They then went down 3-0 by the end of the 1st. The Devils were able to get the game tied on goals by Madden, Marshall and Friesen. But a controversial line change which was not allowed, contributed to the game winning goal scored by former Devil Dave Andreychuk in the 3rd and Tampa would win 4-3 and cut the Devils series lead to 2-1 heading to Game 4
