UCI SSIHI Research Webinar - Translational clinical education to help build integrative psychiatric workforce in the US with Robert McCarron, DO

One in three adults in the US will have a substance use disorder and one in 5 will have another behavioral health condition. Depression is among the most common causes of disability worldwide and often co-occurring with longstanding pain conditions.

This talk covers the importance of teaching integrative medicine and psychiatry to those on the “medical frontlines”, generally Primary Care Clinicians. Research showing this type of training and mentorship can increase recognition of depression and decrease use of opioids for the treatment of chronic pain.

The SSIHI Research Webinars provide insight into integrative health research through an informative presentation by a SSIHI researcher, Pilot Awardee, Samueli Scholar or invited-guest lecturer. These webinars are offered internally to UCI employees.
