The Nigerian military on Monday said that it killed 35 suspected bandits and recovered dozens of animals in two security operations in Zamfara state as part of broader efforts to stamp out the activity.
According to a statement signed by the military spokesman General John Eneche one of the operations in Bungudu area resulted in the killing of 30 armed bandits after troops had been tipped off about their movement with stolen animals.
The other operation in the state happened near Janbako village in Maradun where security forces killed five suspected bandits following credible intelligence about an impending reprisal attack by suspected bandits.
The troops went in pursuit of the remaining suspects after forestalling the attack, the statement added.
In a separate incident in Katsina State, two suspects accused of collaborating with bandits were arrested at Dungun Muazu village in Sabuwa area and taken into custody for further action.
