Special Assignment looks behind the surface of the success story of the wealthy Royal Bafokeng Nation and finds a community living in poverty on land that holds 80% of the world's platinum group metals. The community claims that during colonial and apartheid rule, their forefathers raised the money and purchased their land. The King and his administration deny this claim and insist that the land belongs to the Royal Bafokeng Tribe.
Royal Bafokeng Holdings has a four billion Dollar investment fund, ostensibly in the name of the tribe. The Bafokeng say they have never been consulted about or shared in the profits of the investment and have never benefited from the mining that takes place on their land.
