It was last year in March that the Income Tax Department took the drastic step of raising a demand of nearly Rs 80 crore from Priyanka Gandhi’s husband and businessman Robert Vadra, passing assessment orders for IT returns filed by him between 2010 and 2021.
Sources in the government say the action was taken as the IT Department suspected that Vadra had not declared his true income for over a decade – the demanded amount included the tax on the undisclosed income plus penalty and interest, News18 has learnt.
