The Caroni Swamp is a protected lagoon under the Ramsar Convention. Tours geared towards bird watching and ecotourism occur twice daily (at dawn, and dusk).
The main attractions include: the national bird of T&T, the scarlet ibis; American flamingoes, blue herons, white egrets, cardinals, ospreys, caracaras, hawks, anteaters, among others.
