In 1976, Paddy Chayefsky wrote a brilliant satirical film called "Network". It starred Faye Dunaway, Robert Duvall, William Holden, and Peter Finch. It described the descent of the media and news broadcasting, into a petty, mindless scrabble for ratings.
Sadly, this brilliant film was prophetic in its ability to describe perfectly what the FOX news corporation was to become decades later. A 12 year old Glenn Beck could have gone into the cinemas to watch Faye Dunaway describe his future career plan. We are to blame. In 1976, we were warned of the blight that was to come.
The film was nominated for 10 academy awards, and one four:
Paddy Chayefsky - Best Screenplay
Dunaway - Best Actress
Finch - Best Actor
Beatrice Straight - Best Supporting Actress
