This homestead once belonged to Reuben and Sara Jane Long, they established it here on Pat's Island in 1876. You can hike the Yearling Trail and see what is left of this site. I saw an old foundation and from here you get a great view if Juniper Prairie.
They and several other families set up homesteads around the area. A big freeze in 1894/95 forced much of the settlers out of the area. This area is now apart of The Ocala National Forest.
