Yoga Narashima Swamy temple is located at the peak of the Devarayanadurga hills at a distance of about 73 kms from Bangalore in Tumkur district. In the last video we saw the beautiful road leading to Devarayanadurga. In this video we will explore Yoga Narashima Swamy temple. There about 100 steps which one has to climb to reach the temple. The climb leading to the temple is very scenic and enthralling. This temple is inside a fort and you would see fortifications during your climb. Snacks, water or cold drinks are available from vendors on the side ways.
Timings: 6 AM to 7 PM on all days
Here lord Vishnu is prayed in Narashima avatar. Regarding the origin of the temple I could not find anything concrete. Some places attributed the construction of the temple of Mysore king Kanthirava Narasaraja I in the 17th century. Some says it is a 2000 years old temple and had patronage from the Chola kings. The temple site has 3 sacred ponds namely Narasimha Teertha, Parashara Teertha and the Pada Teertha. The Pada Teertha is inside a large cave. The surroundings of DD hills are also the origin of two rivers namely the Jayamangali and Shimsa. This area is apt for trekking.
I had visited this place twice earlier in 2009 and 2010. I remember witnessing one of the best sunset from the stairs of Devarayanadurga. In the next video we will explore Bhoga Narashima Swamy temple which is located at the foot hills about 1.5 km from here.
