(30 Mar 2018) DESIGNERS AND LABELS HSY, NICKIE NINA AND RIZWAN BEYG SHOW AT PAKISTAN FASHION WEEK
Designers fuse modern sensibilities and indigenous craft and artisanship to create memorable prêt collections with a strong social message on the second day of a three-day fashion week in Karachi on Thursday (29 MARCH 2018).
Local silversmiths inspired designer Rizwan Beyg's 'Chandi' collection. He combined denim and lawn for a collection in blue and white.
"For me the proudest moment of all of this was that all the embroidery done was done by village women in Bahawalpur (Punjab.) So, for me, it was all part of my social development and it's all about empowering women," said Beyg.
Designer duo Nickie Nina's collection 'Mehr-un-Nissa' is inspired by a famous Mughal empress.
"The color palette for the collection is…we have used a lot of hues of whites and off whites and combined (that) with light pastel yellows, with a hint of black and a hint of shocking pick in some outfits. The fabric is very light – keeping the weather in mind – it is chiffons, organzas and light silks," says Nina Junaid.
Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, of the eponymous HSY brand, showcased his 'Musafir' (traveler) spring summer collection.
A popular name internationally, Yasin is confident that Pakistan's fashion industry can provide the product that the world needs.
But for that, he adds, it has to work with the country's textile industry.
"When we have a synergy between textile and fashion, Pakistan can achieve great things. The world is asking for a niche product, a new product. Pakistan can give that. These fashion weeks help in being able to create that product for the world."
Faiza Samee, Munib Nawaz, Shahla Rahman, Kuki Concepts and Zonia Anwar also displayed their collections.
The fashion week ends Friday.
