This Day In patent History (TDIH) - 1

On August 29,1893, Whitcomb L. Judson was granted a patent for modern zipper. Judson was a prolific American inventor who was awarded 30 patents over a sixteen-year career. He received fourteen patents on street railway ideas before his most noteworthy invention — The zipper.

Although, the patent does not mention the term Zipper, it was known as chain-lock fastener. But I guess Zipper is way cooler.

Judson exhibited his invention at the Chicago World's Fair and also launched the Universal Fastener Company to manufacture the zippers.
