Tell this story. You have a train ticket to visit a friend. However, when the train pulls up and you step inside, you notice that the car is filled with various versions of you at each year of your life.
Some younger than you and some older than you.
The train ride lasts for only two hours.
The ride consists
of places that you have been in the past
and places that you will be in the future.
While the train can stop,
all passengers must remain inside at all times
as you watch a scene from your life unfold.
So, where does the train take you? What key events will you visit? Will you focus more on memories from the past or scenes from the future? How much of the time will you spend observing the key locations versus talking to the various versions of yourself?
Which versions of yourself will you talk to? What adv vice will you give your younger self? What questions will you ask your future self?
Now, write this out as a short story. Describe the places you visit using vivid imagery but don’t forget to focus on what happens inside the train as well.
Focus on critical details like the items each person is holding and the clothing they are wearing.
Be sure to make the dialogue realistic and representative of each person’s actual age.
