Karwar : The Uttara Kannada district has been hit by heavy rains on Thursday and Friday. Four people have died in the district, and more than 100 people have been rescued by officials. More than 7,000 people given shelter in care centers.
The Kali, Gangavali and Aghanashini rivers flowing beyond danger level. All the lower places inundated. The Revenue, Police, Fire and Nodal Officers from various departments taking care of the people. The coast Guard, Navy, and SDRF teams were in operation. The NDRF team also pressed in to service.
Kalache, Malavalli, Barsalu and Kodasalli villages in Yellapur taluk worst hit by rains. Many farmers lost their lands owing to landslide. Uday Holla a farmer in Kalache told that he lost his one acre arecanut estate due to landslide. If rain continues he would lose his house also. Landslides incurred in many villages. The exact damage is yet to be estimated. Most villages have lost power connection, and many villages lost road connection.
District minister Shivaram hebbar on Saturday visited rain hit areas of district and promised Rs.5 lakh compensation to the families of deceased. The rain receded since Sunday morning.
