We have invited two experts from Voice of America (VOA), who will share their expertise and insights on harnessing social media platforms effectively to augment journalistic practices. Zoe Leoudaki is a television producer for VOA’s English to Africa Service and spearheads engagement initiatives on various social media platforms within VOA’s Africa Division as an audience engagement strategist. Noteworthy among her accomplishments is the creation of "Shaka: Extra Time," a Facebook Live show based on audience questions. With a broadcast career that commenced in Athens, Greece, Leoudaki has reported for BBC Radio. She is deeply interested in examining how U.S. policies on Africa impact the lives of women and children on the continent. Furthermore, she reports on the contemporary African art scene, focusing on art as a catalyst for social change. She holds a bachelor of arts in sociology from The American College of Greece and a master of science from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. We will also be joined by Gesell Tobías, an experienced multimedia journalist who is the internet managing editor / digital platforms for VOA.. Having worked in television and print media in El Salvador, Tobías ventured to the U.S. in 2007 to join "Washington Telemundo." Subsequently, he became an integral part of Voice of America's Spanish service and played a pioneering role in implementing the "one man band" approach, resulting in the transformation of VOA Spanish's television reporters into multimedia journalists. Do not miss this invaluable opportunity to learn from these esteemed experts as they share their knowledge and insights on leveraging social media in journalism.
