This dance is a modern choreography depicting the courting of two birds of paradise in the mating season. Cendrawasih, also called "the dancing bird", lives in the hinter land of West Irian and is welknown to the people because of his beautiful rainbow colored feathers. To the Balinese people the "cendrawasih " bird is known as "manuk dewata" bird of the gods. Stuffed cendrawasih bird is used in the cremation ceremony in Bali as a symbol to lead the soul to heaven. this dance choreographed by Ni Luh Swasti Wijaya Bandem in 1988.
