The second day day of Lakmé Fashion Week was the special Textiles day. Designers focused on the use of indigenous crafts, dyeing techniques and fabrics in contemporary styles. Ritu Kumar showcased ‘Varanasi Weaves’ a collection of the modern adaptation of Benarasi saris. Aditi Rao Hydari closed the show. Anita Dongre’s ‘Grassroot’ was a collection she worked on with craftsmen from the NGO SEWA. The garments were created with a mix of hand embroidery and hand woven textiles. Designer Ruchika Sachdeva of Bodice showed her collection in the form of a presentation. At first glance her minimal silhouettes do not cry out the use of Indian fabrics but the garments are infact made with the use of khadi blends, batik and indigo dyes.
