Zoot Suit, one of the first professional Chicano productions, opened at the Mark Taper Forum in LA in April of 1978. Its ten-day engagement sold out in two days, and was extended to play again in August of the same year. It reached Broadway, opening at the Winter Garden Theatre on March 25, 1979, and closed after a mere 41 performances.
It was directed by Luis Valdez, with choreography by Patricia Birch, and starred Edward James Olmos as El Pachuco.
