European markets have opened slightly higher this morning, tracking gains in Asian and US markets and following a breakthrough deal on the Eurozone's long-term budget and employment at the European Union (EU) summit. Earlier, the Gfk reported that its consumer confidence index in the UK edged up to a reading of -21 in June from a reading of -22 in May. The Nationwide building society reported that its housing price index rose 0.3% on the month in June, following a 0.4% increase in the previous month.
