Join us as we celebrate Mobi's First Birthday at the Prague Zoo! This heartwarming video captures unforgettable moments of baby gorilla Mobi as she enjoys a day full of love and laughter. From her playful interactions with her family to her adorable reactions, Mobi will steal your heart.
Mobi is becoming more and more confident and it is a pleasure to watch her move on ropes or tease the black and white colobus monkeys. Mobi's name was suggested by the children from the Cameroonian town of Somalomo, where Prague Zoo has been educating local children about the uniqueness of the local nature for twelve years, thanks to the Wandering Bus conservation Project. Mobi translated from the local dialect badjoue means "heiress".
Although Mobi still drinks breast milk, she can now enjoy softer vegetables, cucumber, zucchini or eggplant. Their teeth cannot yet cope with harder root vegetables. "She would like to accept food from our hands. This is what we teach all gorillas in the background as part of veterninary training. However, her mother Duni is very protective, so Mobi's experiments usually end soon as she pulls her baby back into her arms." explained the main primate breeder Martin Vojacek.
This video is perfect for baby gorilla fans, European zoo enthusiasts, and animal lovers alike.

-In general, gorillas live 35 years in the wild. In captivity they get better food, medical care and have no predators. Life expectancy can range from 50-60 years.
GORILLA CONSERVATION - one of the easiest things you can do to help gorillas is to recycle your old cell phone or other hand held electronic device. Recycling electronics helps support gorilla conservation programs. Cell phones and other electronics contain a mineral called coltan (it is short for columbite-tantalite). 80% of the world’s Coltan is mined in central Africa, which is wild gorilla habitat. Forests are being strip mined for this highly sought after mineral, with illegal mining even taking place in protected gorilla areas. BUT! Coltan is reusable! Clear out that old cell phone drawer! Our hope is, that the more and more electronic devices are recycled, this can slow demand for new Coltan to be mined in Africa.
Some estimates report gorilla populations have declined 25% in the past 20-25 years.
The Conservation status of the Western Lowland gorilla is “Critically Endangered”.

And support your local zoo, by purchasing a zoo membership. They are great for families and help conservation efforts. The Prague Zoo/Zoo Praha is one of the zoos that is accredited by the WAZA (World Association of Zoos & Aquariums). To earn an WAZA accreditation a zoo must keep their standards high to help ensure proper care and safety for people and animals.
