The village of Brezovo Polje on the bank of Sava river, some 20 km east of the disputed northern Bosnian corridor town of Brcko, has become a sanctuary for fleeing Sarajevo Serb refugees escaping the handover of their suburbs. Distrustful of the Moslem-Croat federation government, convoys of Serb refugees from the Sarajevo suburbs of Ilijas and Vogosca traversed the country and some fled to this northernmost point. Yet their future remains uncertain since this former Moslem village is destitute and can not provide adequate shelter for the newly arrived refugees. Brezovo Polje school's gym is overcrowded with beds and has been transformed into a shelter for Ilijas Serbs.
