Shruthi Veena Vishwanath is a musician, educator and composer based in Pune. With a background in both the Carnatic and Hindustani traditions of music, she has also trained in abhangs and performed extensively on individual and collaborative music projects. Her work celebrates the intersections of her classical training and the visceral nature of folk forms. She sings a vast repertoire of mystic music from the Indian subcontinent. She researches, composes, and sings poems of women and other marginalised voices. Her work has taken her all over India and to 7 countries overseas. She also teaches and designs curriculum in music and the allied arts.

In this Bhajan, 'Bhola Man Janey' one may identify the underlying truth of our lives, that man is mortal and this body will decay. Our naive mind makes us believe that the body is immortal. It gives us false hopes because wealth and youth are just like a dream, it is like a fleeting moment. The riches that we gather are just temporary, similar to the shade of clouds , that change their positions from time to time..

In the next stanza, the poet writes that there is only one well and five women are drawing water from it. All are busy filling their pots but none of them ponders over the transient nature of that well. One day the well will be dried up and the flower bed will also wither. And the five water drawing ladies will have no source to retract water to sustain themselves.

We waste our time in decorating our bodies, but our dead body will be as hard as the wood, it won’t be decorated anymore and it won’t have any shade or shine over it. All our prestige and power will prove futile that time. They won't come to our rescue.

The poet further says that the walls of the majestic temple are built of sand and the pillars are made of wind. When the poet witnesses this temple, he is awestruck. The poet Gorakh Avdhoota who is the author of eternal Adinath Machandar’s son, sings the praise of his Guru through this poem.

Translation:

My naive mind believes that my body is immortal!
Wealth and youth are like a dream, it is like a fleeting dream.
The worldly attainments are like a temporary shade of a cloud.

There is one well and five women are drawing water from it.
And they all fill up water separately.

One day the well will halt, the flower bed will dry up.
And the five water drawing ladies will be high and dry.

Your dead body will be like wood, it won’t be decorated anymore and it won’t have any shade over it.
Where is your bullying, any prestige or worldly power or any glory or money now.

The walls are made of sand and pillars made of wind.
When I see this temple I am stupefied.

I Eternal Adinath Machandar’s son I am.
Gorakh Avdhoota is singing the praise of his Guru through this poem.

and sculptors, authors and poets, and renowned artists.

"Sang Kabir" is a 3-day music festival, curated for seekers and travellers to embrace the enchanting world of Kabir. The first and successful rendition of "Sang Kabir" was organised at Rishikesh, 22-24 October 2021 in collaboration with Sangrachna Foundation. It’s an extended version of “Rajasthan Kabir Yatra”, a week long travelling folk music festival held annually at Rajasthan, organised by Lokayan Sansthaan, in partnership with Rajasthan Police and Rajasthan Tourism.
