Sarahan Walking Tour | Most beautiful Village of India | Mata Bhimakali Temple Village
Sarahan is a picturesque village located in the Himachal Pradesh region of India, known for its scenic beauty, rich history, and spiritual significance. Situated near Rampur and on the way to Kinnaur, it serves as a gateway to the Spiti Valley. Perched at an elevation of about 2,100 meters (6,889 feet) above sea level, the village offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
One of the main attractions in Sarahan is the Bhimakali Temple, a significant religious site and one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. This temple, built in the traditional Kinnauri architectural style with wood and stone, is dedicated to the goddess Bhimakali and holds deep spiritual importance. Nearby, the royal family’s palace adds a historical touch, though it is not open to the public.
Sarahan is also known for its pheasantry, home to the rare and endangered Western Tragopan, which is Himachal Pradesh’s state bird. The village is especially beautiful in apple season, with many orchards surrounding the area. During October, the Dussehra festival adds vibrancy, drawing visitors to local celebrations and markets.
Traveling to Sarahan involves scenic routes through Shimla and Rampur. Though there are no direct flights or trains, the nearest hubs are Shimla and Chandigarh. From these cities, one can take a bus or taxi, making the journey through winding mountain roads part of the experience.
