Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has been projected to lose his seat of Kooyong as independent challenger Dr Monique Ryan takes the lead in early polls.
A YouGov poll commissioned by The Australian, based on a survey sample of almost 19,000 voters across all 151 lower house seats, shows independent candidate Monique Ryan currently leading the Coalition 53 to 47 in Kooyong.
The poll also shows another Climate 200-backed independent Zoe Daniel leading 52 to 48 in Goldstein against incumbent Tim Wilson.
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said there is no doubt Mr Frydenberg is "in a lot of trouble" despite perceptions he could still maintain his seat.
Mr Clennell speculated the Liberal Party could be without a Treasurer or an Opposition Leader depending on the outcome of the election.
"Does the Liberal Party then try to get Josh Frydenberg into a safe seat at a by-election – something like Menzies – and put that MP in the Senate or somewhere else.
"I think you'd have to consider that."
