In this video I will give you some tips to help you save some money this Kayak Buying Season.
Money - I sure like it, but sometimes it can be in short supply. I often find myself with a whole lot of wants (especially fishing related), but with a limited budget. That doesn’t necessarily mean I have to go without, especially when it comes to buying a kayak. I have found that used kayaks are in abundance this time of year, and if you are patient and look around you will be able to find one that suits your needs. There are plenty of kayak fishermen out there looking to upgrade who will be selling some really nice boats. This is the perfect opportunity for you to find a good boat at a good price. Just keep in mind they are used, they probably don’t have a warranty, and you don’t want to buy somebody’s problem. Which brings me to the point of today’s video: What to Look for When Buying a Used Kayak. So let's jump right in and talk about buying used!
Here’s what you need to do:
Determine what you are looking for. Do your research! Before you get online and start looking, make sure you identify the type of kayak you are looking for. Stand-up/stand-in; fishing/touring; paddle/pedal/power; Size/weight (do you have a way to store and transport).
Develop a list of questions to ask the seller:
Is everything on this boat in working order?
Is there any warranty on this boat? Manufacturer or one the seller might have.
Do you have a title or Proof of origin? This may be important if your state requires you to register your kayak, or if you want to convert it to a power system later.
Are there any previous owners?
Do you ever get any water inside the hull?
What kind of care/maintenance have you done?
Develop a systematic approach to inspecting a katak.
Look around the seller's place and take notice on how he cares for other things they own.
Consider an on-water test.
Shop around for the deal!
