Moraine Lake is located in Banff National Park, Alberta and considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Canada with its iconic view used in the 20 dollar Canadian bill in 1969 and 1979.
The Rockpile and Lakeshore trails are easy family-friendly trails which showcase breathtaking views of the Valley of the Ten Peaks. The Valley of the Ten Peaks includes Moraine Lake itself and the ten peaks surrounding it.
Parking and trailhead are accessed via Moraine Lake Road from Lake Louise Drive just off Highway 1.
Getting to Moraine Lake could be a challenge due to its popularity and limited parking spots. We first went at 5 am but unable to go through Moraine Lake Road as parking is already full. We came back at 5:30 pm and fortunate enough to get a parking spot and turned out to be a great time to visit Moraine Lake as we had the chance to watch the sunset reflecting on the surrounding peaks and the turquoise colors of the Lake.
Shuttle services are available as an option to address parking challenges, however, reservation is required. I therefore recommend planning your trip in advance when visiting this popular place.
